MISSIONS
HISTORY OF THE CHURCH IN NAIROBI
- Church began in a rented hall in February, 2006 with 25 members
- It now has over 500 members and 200 regulary attenders
- The church has reached capacity in the rented hall and is now looking for a location neart the city center where they will purchase land and build a building.
- There are 13 healthy, active cell groups meeting in many of the neighborhoods
SPOT EVANGELISM AND HOW IT WORKS
- “Spot” evangelism is a unique concept in Kenyan culture
- Usually consists of 2 day crusades organized by church members
- They gather at a “spot” in a neighborhood and call people to them thru music played on a public address system
- Once the crowd has formed, Dr. Kiura begins to share the gospel
- By the end of the crusade, many have come to know Christ
- This proved very successful in slum areas in 2006 and 2007
THE CHURCH IN ACTION NOW
- In 2008, the focus was on outside missionaries who came to serve alongside Dr. Kiura and the church in Nairobi
- The idea is an effort to strengthen the financial base of the church so that even more people can be reached
- In August, 2008, Pastor Larry Ragland of the Solid Rock Church in Pinson, Alabama went to the mission field and served alongside the Kiura family for 2 weeks
- Solid Rock Church provided funds to purchase supplies for a maternity center in one of the poorest areas in the country.
- The culmination of Pastor Ragland’s visit was a crusade attended by several thousand people & hundreds accepted Christ
- In 2009, the focus will continue to be on bringing missionaries into Kenya to work in partnership with the church in Nairobi
- During the first part of 2009, the church reached out to an area outside of Nairobi where people were starving to death on a daily basis because of the extreme drought
- The ministry purchased and distributed food to over 140,000 people.
- Other missions trips are planned for later in 2009 where specific work will be aimed at sharing Christ with the homeless, imprisioned and with the orphans in the country.
- Won’t you plan to come and share God’s love with the people of Kenya? To learn more, contact Dr. Kiura at abkiura@rahmi.org

PROPOSED MISSION CENTER
- The mission center will be built on part of the 34 acres of church property in Thika - an area approximately 30 from the city of Nairobi and will be a focal point of the property and a real asset in an area that is mostly agricultural.
- It will be a place for members from the church in Nairobi to come and minister to this area.
- It will also provide a place where the townspeople can come for fellowship and spiritual renewal.
- While we await God’s provision for the funds to build this building, the Ministry is pursuing a 5 step growth plan for this area: church planting in Nairobi; “spot” evangelism; short and long term missions by groups outside of Kenya; establishment and training of cell groups inside the church in Nairobi; and the establishing of contextual cell churches in other parts of Kenya.
